Oral Surgery
What we do
Oral Surgery teaches and practices surgical dentistry such as tooth extraction and other dento-alveolar procedures.
The oral surgery department covers routine and emergency work. Minor oral surgery is performed under local anaesthetic in the clinical department.
Treatments include:
- Routine dental extractions
- Removal of retained roots
- Impacted tooth e.g. third molars
- Cyst removal/apicectomy
- Biopsy
- Bleeding tooth socket
- Avulsed/fractured teeth and oral lacerations
- Minor preprosthetic surgery
- Trauma management e.g. fractures
- Dental implants
- Minor oral surgery for orthodontic purposes
Clinical teachers will play a vital role in the delivery of teaching to the dental students in local anaesthesia and dental extractions.
The future proposals are to further expand the number of academics within the department to aid with the teaching of undergraduates, and to help build the research base of the department.
